Why your participation matters

Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga runs the Survey of Public Sector Information Management each year to understand how information and records are being managed across the public sector.

The survey helps build a picture of information management performance across government and local authorities. Survey findings are analysed and used to:

  • track performance and trends over time

  • identify common challenges, risks and opportunities

  • support the Chief Archivist's reporting on the state of government recordkeeping

  • inform reporting to government and the public.

Most regulated organisations, including local authorities, are required to complete the survey. We send it to Executive Sponsors, but information and records management staff are expected to contribute to the response.

How the survey benefits your organisation

Taking part in the survey helps your organisation to:

  • benchmark its information and records management performance against the wider public sector

  • track progress and performance over time

  • identify strengths and areas for improvement

  • better understand emerging challenges and opportunities in information management.
